2012 January Newsletter – Asian Pacific Islander Caucus – CA Democratic Party
|
hisDear Friends:
Happy New Year!
Hope you all enjoyed a fantastic start to 2012 and a wonderful Martin Luther King Jr day! Yesterday was a perfect day to remember his legacy of service to the community and contribution to our country regarding civil rights, hope, and equality for every man living free in the United States. Our lives are forever changed as a community because of his call to service. Let that be a call to action and inspiration in your life to continue to serve, your part, and whatever it is that is your calling to make this world a better place for all of us to live in.
I’m reminded of his quote, “Whatever your life’s work is, do it well. A man should do his job so well that the living, the dead, and the unborn could do it no better.” Great words to live by when it comes to striving for excellence especially in living a life of service. Many of you are doing that just now and are already a living testament to Martin Luther King Jr’s legacy. Imagine what our world would be like if people like Dr. King or Gandhi, or any of our other great leaders had believed that there was no hope. A good cause is always worth fighting for and we hope that you will join us in our efforts to support the leaders in the Asian Pacific community and help them rise and shine as well! There are many opportunities to get involved, listed in this newsletter, like helping Warren Furutani become the 2nd Asian Pacific American and first Japanese American to serve on LA City Council. Whether it’s with our API Caucus or with other groups, the goal is to do your part! If you don’t, then you can’t complain! It’s the same with everything else in life and in politics. If you don’t make any efforts to create change, then you get only the same, and you don’t have a right to complain. Get involved and get charged! Life is also so much spicier when you have a passion for something you believe in!
We would like to share with you Dr. King’s “I Have Dream” speech and make this a tradition every year during his birthday week. Enjoy it, and get inspired to do something in your life and get involved with us! MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech
We can all change the world and inspire others to do the same. Believe in it, and you can achieve it! For many of our members who have run for office or helped on campaigns, we all know that every vote and voice counts, and every person matters. Let’s all do one thing this weekend in service to another. Hopefully we’ll see you at some of our events, and tomorrow for our last minute GOTV for Warren Furutani, a tireless supporter of our caucus and member as well.
Wishing our friends a fantastic start to the new year and a Happy Chinese New Year as well! This is the year of the Dragon, a time for transformation, change, and ushering in new energy, prosperity, and whatever it is you desire. Hope 2012 brings you wishes-fulfilled, dreams come true, and an abundance of good fortune, luck (which is always good in an election year), success, and above all, happiness!
Warm wishes,
Panney Wei, C.Ht. API Caucus State Secretary/Newsletter Editor
and THE EXECUTIVE BOARD OF THE API CAUCUS- CDP
